Bio
Lauren Wilhelm was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland, where she grew up in a community enriched by the diverse immigrant population. Lauren earned her BA from the University of Maryland, College Park where she majored in government and politics with a minor in rhetorical discourse. During her studies she focused on international migration and human rights issues. Lauren earned her JD from the University of Maryland Carey School of Law and is admitted to practice law in the state of Maryland. While in law school, Lauren was on the executive boards of the Immigration Law and Policy Association and Maryland Public Interest Law Project. Lauren represented clients in immigration proceedings as a student attorney in the UM Carey Immigration Clinic (now Chacón Center for Justice), and served as a law student volunteer with the Southern Poverty Law Center Immigrant Justice Group providing legal assistance to detainees at the Folkston Detention Center in Georgia.
Prior to joining the team at Griffith Immigration Law, Lauren was a staff attorney at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) where she represented unaccompanied immigrant children in a variety of immigration matters before EOIR and USCIS, with a focus on applications for asylum and special immigrant juvenile status. Before her employment with KIND, Lauren worked as a Judicial Law Clerk through the Department of Justice Honors Program at the New York Broadway Immigration Court and later was promoted to the role of Attorney Advisor at the Baltimore Immigration Court.
At Griffith Immigration Law, Lauren works as a Senior Associate Attorney in the litigation department, where she focuses on Asylum and Withholding of Removal cases, as well as cases involving criminal convictions and the subsequent impact on immigration status and relief eligibility.
In her spare time, Lauren enjoys doing yoga, hiking with her husband and dog, reading her Kindle, and watching telenovelas.
