Baltimore VAWA Immigration Lawyers

Enacted in 1994, the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) is a federal law that aims to address and combat domestic violence and abuse. It not only provides support and resources for victims but also offers immigration relief for abused noncitizens who find themselves in abusive relationships due to their dependent status on their abusive spouse in the U.S.

At Griffith Immigration Law, we understand the challenges our clients have endured in such situations. Our dedicated team can provide compassionate and personalized legal services tailored to your unique circumstances. We strive to alleviate your stress and guide you through the VAWA process with dedication and care.

What Is VAWA?

VAWA is a crucial piece of legislation that empowers and protects individuals who have experienced domestic violence. It grants opportunities for abused spouses, children of U.S. Citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (commonly known as green card holders) and abused parents of U.S. Citizen sons or daughters to seek immigration relief independently from the abusive family member.

VAWA Requirements

The requirements for VAWA (Violence Against Women Act) eligibility vary depending on whether you are a spouse, child, or parent who has experienced abuse.

VAWA requirements:

  • You have a qualifying relationship as one of the following:
    • Spouse: You are, were, or were intended to be, the spouse of an abusive U.S. citizen or permanent resident; or
    • Child: You are the child of an abusive U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident; or
    • Parent: You are the parent of an abusive U.S. citizen son or daughter who is at least 21 years old or older.
  • You experienced battery or extreme cruelty by the U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident during your qualifying relationship;
  • You have lived or are living with your abusive U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident relative; and
  • You are a person who has good moral character.

Our experienced Baltimore VAWA immigration attorneys are here to help you navigate through the complexities of the legal process. We can assist you in determining your eligibility and provide comprehensive support and guidance throughout your immigration journey.
